With her instinct for beautiful images, Elizabeth Olivier Kahlau is first and foremost an artist. Her talent for design became evident in her teens, when one of her artworks was selected for an international art exhibition in Taiwan. Today, paintings from her series Women of Africa can be found in art collections around the world. Her passion for the visually appealing inspired an exploration of various mediums, including a year graphic design in Germany. But it was photography that allowed Elizabeth the freedom to express her passion as well as her ideas powerfully.


Elizabeth Olivier Kahlau shocked the wedding industry in 1995 with her very different approach to photographing weddings, and become the first ever wedding photographer to achieve a gold award on the famous Profoto Awards.This she managed to do twice in the same year. In 1996/7 she was
awarded the Silver Profoto Award in the category: weddings.1998/9 saw Elizabeth being the winner of 17 Profoto Awards over three categories: weddings; children; and people creative. 1999 became the year that she was awarded the title of Kodak Wedding Photographer of the Year, as well as earning the Fuji Accolades Award within the category: weddings.

She was awarded by the PPSA with an ASSOSIATESHIP at a function at the end of 2000. Her artistic talents received raving revues as far as London, Portugal and New York.

In 2002 she won second in the Appletizer / Appletude woman photographic competition with her strong image of Marriane Fassler. Her image of Brumilda van Rensburg also appeared on the Appletizer Calendar.

In the recently held FUJI PRO- PHOTO AWARDS (the most prestigious professional Photography awards in Southern Africa) she has been awarded with the only GOLD AWARD in the wedding category. As well as
an additional four Silver Awards, nine Bronze Awards, seven highly commended awards in the categories: Wedding, Fashion/Beauty, fine
Art-Manipulation and Portraits

The crown on her success was to win the overall IMAGE OF THE YEAR in the 1997 Fuji PROFOTO PHOTOGRAPHIC AWARDS with an image done on consignment for the Fashion Designer CHRISTA B.

This being also the year that she achieved international recognition, by being a semi- finalist in the HASSELBLAD

MASTERS AWARDS.

Since 2008 Elizabeth has been involved in judging in the Sony Professional awards in Southern Africa.

 

Elizabeth has worked internationally in London, Portugal, Germany, Mauritius and all over Southern Africa.

She had five successful solo photographic exhibitions and is currently working on her six; angels against rape.

Elizabeth has a degree in science majoring in mathematics and geography
from the University of Pretoria.
